RCCS TEAM COACHES:

Head Coach David Brown - began rowing for Winter Park High School in Central Florida back in 1982 when there were only six high school teams in the state. There are now thirty-eight teams. Upon graduation from Winter Park, Brown headed for Ohio and spent four years rowing for Marietta College. During his freshman year, Brown was 2 seat in a freshman four that took a silver medal at the Southern intercollegiate Rowing Assoc. Championship Regatta in Tennessee, and placed 3rd at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, PA. At the Varsity level Coach Brown competed against and beat crews from top University programs. After graduation from Marietta College, Coach Brown spent one year as a volunteer novice crew coach at UCF. Coach Brown has taught Art at Lecanto High for 17 years.

Coach Ward Cooper - is a retired US Navy Captain and Naval Aviator with a life time of experience on the water in everything from small sailing, rowing and motor craft up to aircraft carriers.  He started working with Coach Carella and Coach Brown when they needed help in transporting their first 4+ Kashper when the club was just forming. He soon got involved in basic shell repair and later as an assistant Coach.  He is currently Level II certified, the Girls Team Coach, and boatsman for the club. He is also the point of contact for parent-board liaison. He has attended rowing, coxie and rigging workshops and has most recently spent a week as an assistant coach at the US Naval Academy's Rowing Camp for Girls working with collegiate, national, world and Olympic level senior coaches. 

Coach Dan Carella - attended Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida where he was a member of the Varsity Crew team. While rowing for Rollins Division II program Carella raced in the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Championships in 1977/78 and at the 1979 Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Assoc. Championship Regatta, Oakridge, TN earning a Bronze in Men’s Varsity 4+. Carella is a member of the math dept. faculty at Lecanto High where he has also served as the Key Club sponsor from 2000-02 before beginning coaching Crew in January 2003. Coach Carella is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Public Health at the University of South Florida.

Coaching Assistant Beth Quandt - Coaching Assistant Beth comes to us from GAR in her first year of coaching. She is a recent Gainesville graduate attending Santa Fe Community College pursuing a degree in education. Beth will be heading up the land workouts as well as assisting the coaches with their team workouts. Beth was a four year rower with GAR where she had competed in regionals and nationals.
